The Pirate Bay Sets Sail on GS, LA, VG, AM, MN, and GD Domains

Just hours ago, reports emerged indicating that The Pirate Bay’s .SE domain is facing imminent seizure. While authorities and copyright holders may be celebrating this development, the response from The Pirate Bay team appears nonchalant. In response to the ruling, they swiftly established six new domain names, intending to cycle through them for the foreseeable future.

For years, The Pirate Bay has been synonymous with Sweden. However, the iconic torrent site is bidding farewell to its Swedish domain names.

Earlier today, the Stockholm District Court ruled to seize both thepiratebay.se and piratebay.se, citing their association with copyright infringement.

While potential appeals loom, the domains are slated to be handed over to the Swedish Government. Yet, this setback isn’t deterring The Pirate Bay’s accessibility. In response, the TPB team swiftly initiated redirection, transitioning to six new domain names: GS, LA, VG, AM, MN, and GD.

Despite the legal effort and significant expenses, the lawsuit’s impact on The Pirate Bay appears minimal.

In response to the court ruling, the TPB team expressed their sentiments to TF, sarcastically congratulating Prosecutor Fredrik Ingblad for the outcome.

“Two years of hard work to change two little letters at a cost of $20,000 per letter,” they quipped. “He could have given us $35,000 and we would have left the domain, thus saving the Swedish taxpayer $5,000. All he had to do was ask nicely.”

With six new domains in play, The Pirate Bay seems even more resilient than before. While efforts may be made to seize or suspend these domains, TPB retains the ability to register additional domains, perpetuating the ongoing game of Whack-a-Mole.
