The Pirate Bay Faces Downtime, Tor Domain Holds Strong

The Pirate Bay’s primary domain has been inaccessible to the majority of users for the past two days. While there’s been no official communication from the site’s operators, past incidents suggest that the outage is probably due to a technical problem. However, despite this disruption, some of the site’s numerous proxies and its official Tor domain remain operational, providing alternative access for users.

The Pirate Bay has been difficult to access for almost 48 hours now. When attempting to visit the site, most users are greeted with a CloudFlare error message indicating a “gateway time-out.” This suggests that there’s an issue on TPB’s end preventing the CDN provider from connecting to the site’s server. As of now, there are no further details available, but based on past occurrences, it’s probable that this is a technical issue that needs to be resolved. It’s worth noting that there are no reported issues with Cloudflare or the domain name itself.

Despite The Pirate Bay’s main domain being inaccessible through the regular route, many proxy sites remain operational, and the site is still accessible via its new .onion address on the Tor network. Both the Tor domain and the proxies continue to feature fresh content, indicating that user uploads and upload bots are still operational. The official Pirate Bay forum has a status page where users can check for outages, confirming that the Tor version of the site is functioning, albeit without displaying new torrents.

While TorrentFreak has not received any updates from the TPB team, such outages are not uncommon for the platform. The Pirate Bay has experienced numerous periods of downtime in the past, with the site typically returning online after a few hours or days. Despite concerns expressed on social media, there is currently no indication that the ongoing issues are related to any enforcement action.
